An unusual c1890 Victorian brooch with an otherworldly glass cabochon designed to simulate an opal. In the Victorian era glass makers experimented with mixtures of metal powders to achieve iridescence. These stones are sometimes called "dragon's breath opals" but this one is unusual in its complexity, with opaque swirls in the glass. Set in 14K rosy-yellow gold.
