An unusual antique English ring with a large labradorite cabochon set in a low-slung pronged setting of 9K gold. Dates to c1900.

Labradorite is a variety of feldspar discovered in Labrador, Canada in 1770. Although it's somewhat fragile, it was popular for use in jewelry in the 19th century, particularly in Europe. It was prized for its unique iridescent optical effect, which was later coined as "labradorescence."

Currently a size 7-1/2 and could be resized in the 6 to 8.5 range for $75.

Materials

Labradorite and 9K Gold

Date

c1900

Condition

Good. Stone has surface wear and an area of natural inclusions on one side where a little chipping has occurred. As found, but shank is probably an old replacement.
