c1900 Austro-Hungarian Bird Pendant

An exceptional, and unusually large antique Austro-Hungarian pendant in the form of a crane with outstretch wings, with three sapphire drops hanging from her wings. Suspended on a pearl-linked sling from a 24 inch long vintage 18K yellow gold chain. The pendant is built in 14K yellow gold, and has a partial hallmark, which appears to be Austrian. 

A Renaissance-Revival design movement inspired Austro-Hungarian jewelers during the 1870-90s . More typically, they reproduced 16th century designs fairly faithfully, but the designer of this pendant scaled up the pendant considerably, and eschewed the usual enameling in favor of a more modern treatment of engraved detailing and a subdued color palette.
