Part of our EB Modern collection which incorporates antique stones into minimal modern designs, this necklace centers on an exceptionally rare demantoid garnet weighing 0.88 carats. It's set in a bean shaped 22K yellow gold mounting with a hidden slot through with an 18K yellow gold snake chain slips through.
Demantoid garnets are one of the world's rarest gems, and are prized for their intense lime color and almost diamond-like brilliance. They were discovered in the 19th century in Russia and were used in the highest end jewelry through the early 20th century when supplies dwindled. This stone was probably cut around c1910, and has the signature horsetail inclusions that identify it as Ural Mountain origin.
