c1900 Pink Lavalier Pendant

An impressive antique c1900 lavalier pendant with a large oval pink paste center and pear shaped lab-grown pink sapphire pendants, suspended on pearl-studded gold chain. The stones are collet-set in a construction style reminiscent of Georgian-era jewelry. Late 19th century jewelers were influenced by nostalgia for 18th century jewelry, and frequently incorporated elements of Georgian-era design into contemporary pieces. 

A process for synthetically producing sapphires was invented in the 1890s, and their use in fine jewelry was common throughout the early 20th century.
