An unusual and very stylish c1880 Victorian locket in 14K gold with a lovely bloomed finish. Blooming was a popular technique in the Victorian era which left a matte polish pure gold surface over alloyed metal. The front and back of the locket have an unusual stamped texture that gives the metal a fabric-like quality. The face of the locket centers on a pearl surrounded framed by a circle of enamel. Inside is a glass covered compartment for a photograph or lock of hair. It could be accessed by a jeweler.
