A well preserved pair of Victorian earrings with Whitby jet drops, carved to abstractly resemble moths, set under ornate tops enameled with fleur de lis. Jet is a form of fossilized coal that was found primarily in Whitby, England. In the 19th century it was prized for its soft, light quality and high polish black surface. It was frequently used for mourning jewelry. Built in 14K gold and dating to c1880.
