A spectacular and rare 19th century brooch made to resemble a large emerald surrounded by mine cut diamonds, but out of paste (leaded crystal). The green crystal was even intentionally clouded to simulate the type of inclusions natural emeralds have. The whole effect is quite convincing. Set in silver with a high karat gold collets around the green crystal. Probably Portuguese or Iberian, and with a later Portuguese punch mark indicating silver and gold construction. Weighs 14.4 grams.
