An unusual c1790 Georgian mourning pendant with a hair-work miniature and a folk portrait on the reverse. Such pieces were usually professionally commissioned when a loved one died, but this one has a naive quality that suggests it was homemade. Tucked away beneath the portrait is a little card that reads "My dear sister Sarah at 22." Presumably, the hair-work miniature and the watercolor were made by Sarah's sister after she died. The locket is gilt metal with a blue enamel border.
