A large and beautifully styled pair earrings with amethysts suspended from a long stem that swings from a flat, rectangular stud top. Completely handmade, including the butterfly back. The styling recalls turn-of-the-century Arts & Crafts jewelry, but is clearly mid-century in its scale and sculptural quality. They are likely the work of the Ecuadorian sculptor Oswaldo Guayasamin, although the hand engraved signature is somewhat inconsistent with stamp that his work usually bears. Datings to the 1960-70s and in 18K yellow gold.
