A 19th century brooch in the form of an Arab man with a diamond studded turban-- a product of the Victorian era Orientalism, which fetishized Asia, Northern Africa, and the Middle East as generically "exotic" and often conflated various cultures and aesthetics. As an art movement, Orientalism inspired many 19th century painters, but much less common is jewelry. The brooch has incredibly fine detail, and is beautifully made in bloomed 14K gold-- a process that produces a matte surface of high karat gold. Probably American made, and dating to around 1890.
