A beautiful little French-made niello locket with a checkerboard pattern, hanging alongside a matching spherical pendant. In sterling silver. Niello is a black mixture of copper, silver, and lead inlaid into engraved silver. It's a centuries old technique, but it was particularly popular in France at the end of the 19th century. Inside are two compartments with locks of hair. The compartments could easily hold photographs if desired. On a new 24" sterling chain that was patinated to match.
