A beautiful quality and rare to find 19th century locket with a nicely detailed relief of a german shepherd's head. Niello detailing to the sides and back. Niello is a black mixture of copper, silver, and lead inlaid into engraved silver. It's a centuries old technique, but it was particularly popular in France at the end of the 19th century. Opens to hold one or two photos inside. On a new 17" sterling silver chain.
