A beautifully made and rare pair of c1960 vintage sputnik earrings, built as half domes studded with multicolored gemstones (Aquamarine, Amethyst, Citrine, Peridot, and Garnet). In rosy 14K gold.
In 1957 the Soviet Union launched a spherical satellite called Sputnik into Earth's orbit, marking the dawn of the space age and spurring a wave of space-themed design. Sputnik-themed jewelry is relatively rare.
