c1880 Roma Amor Bracelet

A beautifully made and well-preserved piece of Victorian Grand Tour jewelry with the words "ROMA" on one side and "AMOR" on the other– a 19th century souvenir of Rome. A simple ivy leaf emblem on the face is surrounded by delicate granulation, reflecting a 19th century fascination with ancient Etruscan jewelry. Built in 14K yellow gold, bloomed to give it the appearance of pure gold. The backside has a glazed locket compartment. Opens with an unusual double hinged mechanism. Dates to c1880.
