An exceptional Victorian-era stamp locket designed as a letter, complete with personalized engraving and enamel work showing the recipient as "H.R. Fonda" of St. Albans, Vermont. William Fonda was a wealthy business owner in St. Albans in the 1890s. Presumably H.R. was one of his siblings, and the locket was a gift for him or her from someone in New York City, where the locket was "postmarked" on April 2nd, 1893. Amazingly intricate with a tiny enameled George Washington stamp and the backside carved to look like an envelope.
