A beautifully made and rare pair of c1960 vintage sputnik earrings, built as half domes studded with multicolored gemstones (Aquamarine, Amethyst, Citrine, Peridot, and Garnet). In rosy 14K gold.
In 1957 the Soviet Union launched a spherical satellite called Sputnik into Earth's orbit, marking the dawn of the space age and spurring a wave of space-themed design. Sputnik-themed jewelry is relatively rare.
With the original clips for non-pierced ears, but can be converted to either posts or wires for no additional charge. Please reply to your order confirmation if you would like the alteration made.
