A high-quality large intaglio signet ring, heavily constructed in 18K yellow gold. The intaglio is carved in amber colored paste (leaded glass crystal) with classical imagery of Cupid fishing from a perch above swirling water and a serpent. Neptune standing in the distance. The intaglio is heavily weathered and is much earlier than the mounting-- likely 18th century. A 1730 catalog of the Duke of Devonshire's collection of ancient carved gems contains an engraving of a near identical scene. The drawing may have been the source for an 18th century reproduction of the original ancient gem. 

Weighs 14.2 grams.

Currently a size 8-1/4 and could be resized in the 7 to 9 range for $95.
