c1960 18K Rope Necklace

A vintage c1960 Italian 18K yellow gold necklace with a graduated San Marco link designed to resemble a heavy twisted rope. A finely grooved Florentine finish gives the luster and texture of silk. Retailed by Robert Martin, a Los Angeles jeweler and importer who operated out of the Ambassador Hotel, and in the original box. Marked with an Italian hallmark "15 VR" which was used by Carlo Weingrill, a firm that contracted for Buccellati, Tiffany and Cartier in the mid 20th century. Very similar to Buccellati's Torchon necklace, and perhaps made by the same contractor. Weighs 80.5 grams.
