Materials:		Whitby Jet (a rare form of fossilized coal from the town of Whitby on the north coast of England), Brass Fittings.

Date:		1870s (Recently Restrung)

Size:		Beads: 20 inches Pendant: 1.25 inches long

Condition:		Excellent, Looks to have been recently restrung.

Description:		A spectacular and very rare Whitby jet necklace from the mid to late 1800s. Jet was prized in the Victorian era for it's rich black color and light weight-- particularly for mourning jewelry. The cameo pendant is beautifully carved with a classical profile of a woman. Wears beautifully.
